Race Day Volunteer Opportunities
Roles for Race Day Volunteers:
Festival Site Volunteer:
Festival Site Volunteers will assist with a variety of activities such as helping check in other volunteers, monitoring the cleanliness of the tables for food and beverages, selling raffle tickets or assisting with family/children’s activities as needed.
Course Marshall:
Course marshalls are stationed at 12 key locations along the race route to ensure everyone’s safety – to direct cyclists along the course, monitor pedestrian crossings, warn cyclists of any hazards, and motivate these athletes. (Cheer them on!)
Host Housing – A Unique Opportunity
Watching professional and elite amateur cyclists from around the globe compete is an exciting opportunity. But inviting them into your home is even more special!
Open your home to riders during race week.
Hosting riders in private homes makes it possible for many teams to participate. And it is a unique opportunity to meet athletes from 40 states and 15 different countries.
Hosting riders lets you experience the racing lifestyle as racers compete in the Elgin Classic and the nine additional races of the Chicago GRIT series. You’ll learn not just about their involvement in bike racing, but about their personal backgrounds and homes. Many hosts form lifelong friendships with their guests. And Elgin is uniquely positioned to offer housing in Spanish speaking or bilingual homes – making the stay even more comfortable for Spanish speaking riders.
Host families are asked to provide:
- A comfortable sleeping space, bed or air bed
- The use of a bathroom and shower
- Use of kitchen to prepare meals
- Counter and refrigerator space
- Use of your washer and dryer
- A secure place for the cyclist(s) to store their bicycle at night
Note: You are NOT expected to provide food or transportation.
